POSTPARTUM HAIR LOSS.

Where do I even start from? Is it the struggle of growing my hair or the baldness? I have heard about the hair loss after birth but never thought it is this bad. With my first child, I did experience some breakages but nothing serious. But with my second child, I just had the worst experience. I thought I was going to keep all the hair I grew while pregnant only to find out I am actually going to lose it.

Over the months, my edges has been thining, hair always falling out and the final moment I couldn’t take it any more was that chunk of hair in the bath tub, infact I was SHOOK. Honestly, I find it hard to cater for my hair, I am the last person passionate about hair. Left with me, I will be rocking short hair for life just like my paternal Grandma. And to think I have two girls, oh Lord. I was managing what I had on my hair until I was left with a bald patch. I remember going into a panick mode thinking I was going bald and also wondaring what I was going to tell my husband. I am known to be cutting my hair randomly and I promised him I will not do that any more but this time around, I had no choice. I did my little research and found out, it is just a temporary phase. Girl, was I relieved. The things our body goes through as a woman is just unimaginable.

What really causes it?
During pregnancy, your estrogen freezes your hair from growing. Majority of the hair on your head is actively growing, while the other is in a resting stage. The ones that you shed on a normal base, won’t and that is how you get that thick beautiful hair when pregnant. After birth your estrogen levels decline and all the hair that was resting starts to fall out.
As I said, my edges was thining out but I noticed the chunk during my 7month postpartum.

How do you prevent it?
Apparently you won’t be able to prevent the hair from falling out, but what you can do is keep letting your hair look good.
• Get a cut; With me, I just chopped it all off so I can start it all over.
• Wear wigs. What I did a lot during this transition was to wear wigs. Very easy
• This is the time to try something new like coloring your hair. The coloring helps in hiding the spots.
• Part your hair differently, wear hair bands, brush your hair backwards.

Always remember to seek advice from your doctor if you think you are loosing too much hair.

Love, Whitney.

FENTY BEAUTY by Rihanna

I know by now everybody has heard about Rihanna’s make-up line. I am probably the last to get on the wagon but it is better late than never. I am not the type that follows the hype but, there is something about Rihanna so I had to get my hands on it.

I purchased the Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation, Killawatt Highlighter (trophy wife) and the match stix trio(caramel, truffle, rum). These were the products I was excited about.

I used the products to achieve a fall look.

Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation; First of all, the shade range is great. Rihanna has got everybody covered. I am in love with this foundation because it is not cakey and gives you that natural look. Did I mention it dries up matte? Perfect for us oily skin. Initially, I thought shade 380 was lighter for me but it was perfect for me.  The foundation dries to a darker color.

The match stix trio;  This was actually my first cream contour and highlight so I was a bit worried about blending but it was easy to work with.  Once again, very natural and compliments my skin. I used the caramel concealer under my eye, the bridge of my nose and on my jawline, then I contoured with truffle. I used Laura Mercier loose powder to set it. Finished the look by using rum on my browbone, bridge of my nose and cheekbone.

Killawatt Highlighter; If you love glitter then you should check this highlighter out. Not my everyday look but, I got it because I know I will use it a lot during the festive season. It is extremely pigmented but it’s workable. I plan on using it as an eyeshadow as well.

Overall thoughts based on what I got, I love it!

Have you tried any of the Fenty beauty products? Did you love it or hate it?

Thank you for stopping by.

Love, Whitney.

AFFORDABLE BEAUTY ROUTINE..

In the past three months, I have been loving these new products. I wanted to try some thing new, so I decided to give some of the Garnier skin active products a try. Along with the Garnier products, I also got St. Ives blemish control scrub. I go for products that are oil fee and controls oily skin. As a mother of 2 under 2, I don’t have that luxury of time so I keep my routines simple and the products less.

Morning routine:

  1. Cleanse

facialm cleanser

2. Exfoliate

scrub

3. Tone

toner

4. Moisturize

daily moisturizer

Evening routine:

  • I repeat the same steps but the only difference is,instead of applying the clearly brighter, I use the Garnier leave on peel off mask.

peel

Days that I wear make up, I first clean my make up with wipes then follow the same steps. I don’t really care much about what type of wipes I use. Sometimes I even use baby wipes. I use my facial mask once every week. I usually do that during the weekend.

CRADLE CAP

Both o f my girls suffered from cradle cap. I was hoping the second child wouldn’t but unfortunately she did. My first girl had a severe cradle cap and it took a while for it to be cured.  I remember how I spent a lot of time trying to figure out why and trying to treat it. Since she was my first child, I was really worried and to make matters worst, she had rashes on her face which wouldn’t go. Every mom I spoke to told me it wasn’t a big deal but to me it was. Trust me, as a first time mom there will be so many things you will worry about.

What it is Cradle cap?

It is a crusty or oily scaly patches on a baby’s scalp, the eyebrow or eyelid.  Cradle cap is also called dandruff in older kids and adults. It is normally not painful or itchy but it can get uncomfortable for the baby. It usually happens within the first 3 months when the baby is born.

Causes

It’s not clear what causes cradle cap, although it may be linked to high levels of an oily substance called sebum on affected area and also a reaction to a yeast called malassezia on the skin. One thing I can assure you which doesn’t cause cradle cap is getting it from another person(not contagious) but what I noticed is that, it can cause rashes on the baby’s face if the scales keeps falling on the baby’s face.

Symptoms

Cradle cap differs on every baby. Some  will group together in bunches(like my girls) or it can be spread far apart on the body. With my girls, it had the thick plaques and flakes like dandruff and also had hair loss due to it. Don’t worry about the hair loss because it will grow back as they grow.

How to cure it

What I normally do is put almond oil or olive oil in their hair, wait for about 10-20 minutes, I combed through their hair with a fine-tooth comb or soft brush and the flakes falls off,  then go wash it out. You can also leave it overnight then wash it the next day. I don’t like washing their hair daily because I feel like it will dry their scalp. So I do this every other day. I wash their scalp with mild shampoo as it can help to loosen and remove the scales. And days that I don’t wash the hair, I just wet a towel and clean their scalp.

Try not to use the same towel you use on the scalp for her face or body. That was what I did wrong. I was using the same towel, hence, the rash on the face. I will recommend you go see her pediatrician if you try curing it at home and it doesn’t work.

They say experience is the best teacher,so I thought I should share my two cents.

10 BASIC LIFE HACKS

Life does not have to be complicated. These are some basic hacks that will simplify your life.

1. Do you have dry feet? Have you tried so many products to stop it from getting dry and chapping? Stop worrying! Rub your feet with Vaseline and wear socks. You can do this when you are going to bed.

image

2. Smelly armpit? You have probably heard a lot about the uses of lemon or lime but here is another one; before you take your shower, rub it under your arms, wait for 5 minutes and then take your shower. Try it a couple of times and you will notice the difference.

image

3. To avoid bumps when shaving, shave the direction your hair grows, not the opposite.

4. When was the last time you had a facial or lip scrub? All you need is two simple items and I bet you have these items in your kitchen.  Sugar, honey or olive oil. Make a paste by adding the olive oil or honey in the sugar. Which ever one you prefer. Take a generous amount and rub it all over your face. After scrubbing, wash it off with water then with your facial soap. For the lip, just wash it off with water.

image

5. This one is no secret but if you did not know, now you know. You can whiten your teeth at home. All you need is; baking soda and lemon. Mix several teaspoons of baking soda with enough fresh lemon(lemon juice)to make a paste. Put a good amount of paste onto your toothbrush and apply.  The baking soda and lemon are quite abrasive and can erode your enamel so do not leave it on for a long time. Make sure you rinse your mouth well.

6. It is a bummer when your favorite jewellery starts fading. One thing that I always do when I buy jewellery that is neither gold or silver, is to put clear nail polish on it. It makes it last longer.

image

7. This one is for my ladies. If you have a dried mascara, just put it in hot water and it will soften it up.

8. If you want your perfume to last, spray behind your ears, behind your knees, inside your wrist, inside your elbow and inside your clothes(chest area).

9. Tough stain? apply lemon juice on the stain before you wash it. If necessary, hand wash.

10. Back to lemon, use lemon to brighten your underarm, knuckles, elbow if they are dark. Scrub where you want. Some people leave it over night or you can also use it before taking your shower.

I hope you find these helpful. If you have other hacks, do share in the comment section.😊

Love, Tutu.
